“Biolinks for Phascogales” will target the Rowsley / Parwan Creek area, from the Brisbane Ranges National Park through to the Werribee Gorge State Park (Ingliston Block), enhancing and establishing habitat for Brush-tailed Phascogales to traverse through the landscape.

The project will build on and expand the Phascogale monitoring efforts by community organisations (Moorabool Landcare Network and Friends of the Brisbane Ranges), in the project area. This may also include the establishment of nest boxes in existing revegetation sites.

In addition, prescribed cool burns will be carried out within the Brisbane Ranges National Park to enhance the suitable vegetation communities that the Phascogale relies upon and to ensure habitat trees are conserved.

The project will:

• Increase our knowledge of the distribution of the Brush-tailed Phascogale population within the Brisbane Ranges to Werribee Gorge areas.
• Mitigate threats to the Brush-tailed Phascogale population by undertaking pest animal control and exclude stock grazing from high quality habitat and newly established vegetation sites.
• Undertake cool burns in the Brisbane Ranges National Park to protect hollow bearing trees.
• Continue the formation of the Brisbane Ranges National Park to Werribee Gorge State Park biolink to increase the habitat range of the Brush-tailed Phascogale.
• Undertake an extensive landholder awareness and educational campaign in cat ownership and the importance of habitat trees on private land.
