Improving 3 hectares of local green space for the community and nature
This project aims to revegetate approximately 3 hectares of weed-infested land with indigenous plant species. The long term aim is to provide a community resource to promote the value of native habitat.
It will involve active community participation in ongoing maintenance; field days; school programs; citizen science programs such as pollinator counts, frog census and bird surveys; and passive visits using interpretive signage.
The area will also be used to establish populations of endangered plant species such as Spiny Rice Flower and Button Wrinkle-wort in conjunction with the Arthur Rylah Institute and the Pimelea Conservation Trust.
The project is around half-way towards the initial replacement phase, where all land to be weeded and planted out has been treated. A second phase adding amenity such as seating, learning areas, signage and water storage infrastructure will commence in 2023. Ongoing maintenance of established areas has commenced and will be a constant part of the program.
